My Curly Hair Routine

Long time readers will know that I have something of a love-hate relationship with my hair (read more here). Either it behaves itself, in which case I love it, but most of the time it doesn't and I actively despise it.
It has taken me a long time to accept my hair for the way it is. It's hard to manage, it costs me a fortune to maintain and is always just on the frizzy side of curly even on its good days, BUT it's mine and now when I straighten it I just don't feel like me.This post is for all my fellow curly/frizzy haired people, the struggle may be real but it's worth it. You know sometimes.

For me the key to handling my hair is only brushing it, using The Wet Brush, before and after I wash it and that's it. I'm not precious about what shampoo or conditioner I use although I do really like L'Oréal Elvive's Extraordinary Clay Re-balancing Shampoo & Conditioner (read more here) and Vo5's Smoothly Does It Shampoo & Conditioner, which are a nightmare to find but work wonders on frizz. After I wash my hair I always use a leave in conditioner and my absolute favourite is John Freida Frizz-Ease Daily Miracle Leave-in Conditioner (read more here) I use this stuff every single day because it's safe to use on colour treated hair, it's really light weight and very nourishing. It also acts as a de-tangler and prevents breakage when brushing - we all know the dangers of brushing wet hair - and it smells so good.

I then use an oil or serum of some kind, usually both. At the moment I'm loving L'Oréal Elvive's Smooth Intense Anti-Frizz Serum. I picked this up after running out of my fave Avon Advance Techniques 360 Nourishment Moroccan Argan Oil (read more here) and I really like it. It's not as heavy duty as Avon's offering. It has a more lightweight consistency that doesn't weigh down the hair or make it look greasy and it really nourishes the frazzled ends that plague my hair. I just run a couple of pumps through the mid-lengths and ends of me hair when it's damp to tame frizz and to lock in moisture. It's lovely.

After that I use John Freida Frizz-Ease Extra-Strength 6 Effects+ Serum (read more here), again this is something I've used for years because it's so damn good - sidenote: I'm not sponsored by John Freida, just a really big fan! - just a couple of pumps through wet hair tames frizz, protects from humidity and smooths flyaways. It also acts as a heat protector and hydrates the hair. I am obsessed with this stuff, I have tried other serums but nothing comes close to this! Finally I use Vo5's Smoothy Does It Curl Defining Mousse this mousse is quite tricky to find. For some reason Vo5's Smoothly Does It range, which is amazing, is stocked basically no where. I've found that Asda or Sainsburys usually have some in stock and I tend to buy it in bulk whenever I see it because it's amazing. It's very lightweight, to the point where it doesn't actually feel like I have anything in my hair, it defines my curls without making them crispy and it leaves my hair feeling soft and hydrated. Like I said, its amazing.

On days when I don't wash my hair, I wash my hair every 2 - 3 days, then I usually spritz more John Freida Frizz-Ease Daily Miracle Leave-in Conditioner through my hair and use John Freida Frizz-Ease Secret Agent Touch-Up Crème - again not sponsored!- (read more here) to keep any frizz in check. It smooths down any flyaway and keeps my hair hydrated, it also smells amazing.
