Hello! I've had a bit of a break over the last couple of days. What with uni stuff, work and an astronomical hangover on Sunday - the less said about that the better! - I haven't really had time to write but I'm back and I thought I would start with a review of all the fabulous things I bought last Friday.

L-R: Rimmel London Apocalips in Apocaliptic, Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in 05, The Original Tangle Teezer, Collection Extreme 24 Hour Eyeliner, Nivea Daily Essentials Tinted Moisturising Day Cream in Natural

Starting with the Tangle Teezer

The Original Tangle Teezer

This marvellous hair brush was a gift from my mum. A couple of years ago I had really long hair, but due to years of bleach and heat related abuse I had to get it chopped off (sob!) to just above my collar bone and I was NOT happy. Ever since then I have had a love-hate relationship with my hair - it loves to piss me off by not growing so I'll hate it! - and it has been my mission to get my hair back to it's former length and glory and oh so very slowly it's growing back.

My main problem is my hair is wildly curly and that's not always a good thing. (Without any product I tend to have more than a passing resemblance to Ronald Macdonald - my ghostlike paleness and love of red lipstick don't really help either) So I have to brush my hair when it's wet otherwise it frizzes out of control and looks hideous. The problem is, as every fashion magazine will tell you, that there are few things worse for your hair than brushing it wet.  Now normally when I brush my hair wet the strands get stretched or they snap or I pull loads of it out and I end up with loads of split ends (split ends are EVIL) and none of those things are good.

The Tangle Teezer is designed specifically so that you can brush wet hair and none of those things happen...and it ACTUALLY WORKS! I have been using it for about a week now and the difference it makes is incredible, my hair is in noticeably better condition and I truly believe that it is down to this miracle of a hair brush. So thank you Mama I love it <3

The Tangle Teezer is priced between £9 -£11 which yes is a bit pricey, especially if you're a strapped student like me but in my humble opinion they are so worth it.  My mumma bought me mine but you can get them here, trust me your hair will thank you for it

Girl Crush 2013

Girl Crush 2013

Read post
Hello lovely people! How are you enjoying this unrelenting snow? You're not? Me neither. So I thought I'd cheer myself up and write a blog about Girl Crushes. I have hundreds.

Today I was retweeted by Company Magazine!  I know to some people this may not sound like a big deal but I got so many amazing responses from my tweet/re-tweet that I have been buzzing with excitement all day and I couldn't wait to share my girl crushes. So in no particular order...

Emma Stone - she is talented, smart, sassy, absolutely hilarious as the well-meaning Olive in Easy A (the role that first brought her to the world’s attention and the reason for my retweet.) I. LOVE. HER! Not only is she all of the above she is also incredibly beautiful, impeccably dressed and a hair chameleon and she has the most amazing, husky voice. She also seems like she would be an amazing friend. As girl crushes go this one is pretty serious.

Jennifer Lawrence - she is the star of the most high grossing action film with a female lead of all time. But that's not why I love her. I love her because her raw talent has led her to be nominated for an Oscar twice before the age of 25. I love her because she has an excellent sense of humour, and she handles everything thrown at her with grace, dignity and good humour (e.g. Meryl Gate) I can't decide if she is the woman I want to grow up to be (despite there only being a 9 month and 4 day age gap between us) or the woman I want as my best friend forever and ever. I think we could be besties. I also think that this girl crush is not just any girl crush, I think she could the one.

Emma Watson - I have wanted to be Emma Watson since I was 9. I have spent over half my life in girl love with Emma Watson and I don't regret a second of it. Not only is she incredibly beautiful and clever to name but a few of her attributes but she has managed to stay well... normal and hasn't lost control - like some other child stars who could be mentioned, but won't be because this blog is about love - she has proven her talent again and again not just in the (glorious) Harry Potter franchise but also in the (equally glorious and thoroughly underrated) Perks of Being a Wallflower. Every little girl should grow up with Emma Watson as a role model. She is absolutely fabulous.

Lea Michele - Anyone who follows Lea Michele on twitter will know this woman's boundless enthusiasm for everything and I love that. Her voice is flawless and she is absolutely stunning. She has an undeserved reputation as a diva but I think she is fabulous.

J.K. Rowling - The world owes this woman a big hug and thank you and one day I really hope to give her these things on the world's behalf. I grew up with Harry Potter, as did most of the children born in the early 90's, I read the first Harry Potter book when I was 8, 14 years later I still adore those books, they gave me so much when I was growing up. She turned a generation onto reading and those books continue to inspire and delight. J.K. Rowling is one of the many reasons I want to be a writer. Not only is she amazingly smart and imaginative but she is so generous that she was actually removed from the Forbes Rich List because she has donated so much money to charity. Plus the woman is beautiful, she created Hermione Granger - a character we should all be grateful for- and she loves shoes. J.K. Rowling is my kind of lady.

Hermione Granger - Brave, smart, powerful with wild curly hair and the very definition of girl power. I want to BE Hermione Granger, have done for as long as I can remember. I have about a million more things I could say about Hermione but the most important thing is this: Hermione Granger made it okay for me to be me. I love her!

Zooey Deschanel/Jess Day - Now I am well aware that these 2 ladies are different with varying degress of realness BUT I love them both. Both are incredible. Zooey Deschanel is one kick ass lady who I have been crushing on since 500 Days of Summer. Jess is amazingly quirky and made it okay for socially awkward girls like myself to be themselves. They're amazing! 'Nuff said.

I have so many girl crushes but these fabulous ladies are my top 8. They are all smart, beautiful women who are so much more than just pretty faces. They are so inspiring. I hope your girl crushes inspire you in the same way. My other crushes include: Gwyneth Paltrow, Michelle Williams, Jennifer Aniston, Stevie Nicks, Blake Lively, Mila Kunis, Barbara Streisand, Sarah Jessica Parker & Anne Hathaway and those are only the ladies who spring to mind.

Who are your girl crushes? Why?

Anywho I think that's all I've got in me for tonight but please share the lady love, would love to know who your girlcrushes are. Until next time lovelies check me out on twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest

A few of my favourite things...

A few of my favourite things...

So I thought I'd hit the ground running with this blog and tell you wonderful people - and if you're reading this you are wonderful :) - about some of my favourite things. I'm very excited.

Favourite Thing #1

So to start off I thought I'd share my favourite song, or one of my favourites at least, and that is The Freshmen by The Verve Pipe. I first heard this song in the background of an episode of How I met your Mother (another favourite thing) and then again in American Pie Reunion and I very quickly became obsessed. And by obsessed I mean if this song was a person they would have gotten a restraining order by now. This song makes me wish I came of age in the nineties when it first came out. I listen to it at least once a day if not more and my play count is currently on 405.

Check it out here, fall in love with it's moody nineties awesomness, listen to it repeatedly (as I have done) - preferably whilst rocking a super grungey nineties look complete with ripped fishnets, boots, checked shirt and tons of eyeliner - and let me know what you think.

Favourite Thing 2:

Despite being a lifelong nail biter I truly love painting my tiny, bitten nails. In fact this is one of the best Christmas presents I have ever received.

My favourite nail polish of all time is O.P.I Nail Lacquer in Bogota Blackberry. Red is one of my favourite colours and this deep red is so shiny and pretty I just want my nails that colour all the time... now if I only I could just stop biting them... my nails would be even prettier.

O.P.I Nail Lacquer, in my opinion is totally worth the fairly hefty price tag, the colours are stunning and wearable and it only takes two coats and you're good to go. I've been wearing it for ages and I am still on my first bottle. Try it, love it.

Please ignore my pathetically short nails. I am trying to stop.

Favorite Thing 3:

MAC Blusher in Dame. I have been a long time admirer of MAC makeup but I didn't actually own any until I went to New York (my most favourite thing <3) last summer. I didn't actually wear blusher until I discovered this beauty of a product. This blusher is so lovely, it goes on like a dream and it gives my cheeks a lovely rosy glow. If you're incredibly pale like me - I make Casper the friendly ghost look tanned and healthy and he's dead! - then this is the PERFECT blusher for you. I adore it and dread the day when I run out of it.

I'm gonna leave it there tonight you lovely lot. Will be back soon with more of my favourite things and maybe some other stuff too. In the meantime please check me out on twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest or comment below, I would love to hear about your favourite things.

Until next time...

My name is Lauren, I love music, fashion, musicals, make up, painting my (very short) nails, reading and travelling to name but a few of my interests so this blog will probably be a mixture of  all those things. I am a second year English student and have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. I've started this blog to see if I'm any good at this writing mallarky.
