July Favourites

July Favourites

Read post
So I operate at least a week behind the rest of the world which is why it has taken me this long to put together and post my July Favourites. Hey Ho better late than never.

Clarins Thirst Quenching Hydra-Care Serum

I have had this so long that I am not even sure if Clarins sells it anymore (I googled it, they do but it's been reformulated and looks different) I've been using this for the past couple of weeks as my skin has been in need of a bit of extra TLC and man has it delivered. It feels so silky against the skin and it is really hydrating. I'm always a bit wary of serums because my skin is so tricky - super sensitive, combination and blackhead prone - but this is really good.

The Real Techniques Buffing Brush

I've been going through a bit of a Real Techniques obsession over the last month or so. My absolute favourite of all my make up brushes, both Real Techniques and otherwise, is the Buffing Brush. I have mentioned this brush so many times in the past 5 weeks or so (read about it here, here & here) and that is simply because it is amazing. It's synthetic so it doesn't absorb too much product so stops wastage and buffs it into the skin in seconds. It. Is. Amazing!

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer in 002.

This primer promises to Smooth, Resurface, Brighten, Mattify and Protect the skin and it does exactly that. It also gives my make up some serious staying power. Whilst it's not as amazing as Benefits The Porefessional it is good and costs a fraction of the price. Win.

MAC Creme Amplified Lipstick in Girl About Town

OH. MY. GOD. This lipstick. This lipstick. OH. MY. GOD. Girl About Town is one of the great beauty loves of my life. I've talked about this so much in the last month or so I won't bore you with the details (you can read about it herehere & here). It's amazing.

Balance Me Daily Essentials Moisture Rich Face Cream

I got this a while back and have been using it on and off for the past few weeks and I really like it. It smells gorgeous, like Turkish Delight and summer time. It is really moisturising and has a lovely non-greasy texture.

Rimmel London's Match Perfection Concealer in Soft Beige

This concealer covers dark circles and blemishes and makes me look and feel all together more human. I've nearly gone through my first tube but I will definitely be repurchasing.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Sugar Apple

The colour is gorgeous and summery and the formula is awesome. I am obsessed. In my vast collection of over 200 nail polishes (I have a problem!) this is my current favourite. In love.

Nivea Daily Essentials Refreshing Cleansing Mousse

I've been using this every night for the past couple of weeks as the first step in my make up routine because it makes taking my make up off so much easier. It's not at all drying on the skin and foams into a mousse which is super fun.

A non beauty favourite this month is The Lonely Island!

For those who don't know The Lonely Island are a comedy group made up of SNL alums Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg (the last of whom I have a massive crush on! What is it about a guy with a sense of humour...)Their songs are both hilarious and really good. My favourite is Yolo feat. Adam Levine because it is so funny but also a really good song, so catchy. The music videos are also worthy of a giggle. Loving them.

So those were my July Favourites, what did you think? Agree? Disagree? Let me know via twitter @lolarocknroses or comment below. If you do comment I always try to reply so do check back. I'll be back tomorrow with a movie review of Guardians of the Galaxy. Until then if you'd like to read my June Favourites you can do so here and you can check me out on twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest

July Beauty & Fashion Haul 2014

July Beauty & Fashion Haul 2014
Sunday, 10 August 2014
Read post
Now July was a particularly spendy month for me. And by that I mean the spending was pretty much constant. As a recovering strapped student having money is still something of a novelty to me and I seem to be on a mission to rid myself of it as soon as possible to return to my natural state of broke-ness. So before we get too far into August (although we are now 10 days in… oops) I thought I would share with you all the things I bought in July.

H&M Bowler Hat

I saw this in H&M and just had to have it. It was a silly purchase but whenever I look at it I smile. I love it.

Topshop Ankle Boots

I saw these boots in Topshop last October and it was love at first sight. But being a broke student at the time I couldn't afford the £80 it would cost to take them home with me. It just wasn't meant to be. Then a couple of weeks ago I was in Topshop and there they were, the last pair in my size. In the sale. £30 down from £80. It was fate. Well as you can imagine I snapped them up and I love them. They are so beautiful and yet so comfortable. I will be living in these come winter.

Cream Lace Shoes from New Look

I got these for my Uncle's wedding a couple of weeks back for the ridiculously low price of £11 (they were on sale). I adore them, they are absolutely stunning and the comfiest high heels I have ever had the pleasure of having on my feet. I had these on from 10 o'clock in the morning until 11 o'clock at night and they didn't hurt at all. Sadly there was an unfortunate incident where I got one of the heels stuck in a grate and it snapped off. I was so upset and I just had to go back to New Look the next morning to get a replacement pair. I love them.

ASOS Navy Pleated Skater Dress with Cream Panels

I bought this dress for my Uncle's wedding, 3 days before the event I might add. I was looking for an outfit for weeks and weeks and couldn't find anything remotely nice until I saw this little lovely on ASOS. It looked gorgeous on, made me feel fabulous and cost £13 in the sale. Win.

Real Techniques Brushes

I don't need to talk more about my recent obsession with Real Techniques (you can read about them here & here). The brushes are amazing and soft and so ridiculously affordable and I love them.

No 7  Eyeshadow Trios

Cappuccino

Good Earth

I had some No 7 vouchers floating around and so decided to treat myself to a couple of new eyeshadow trios. The colours are nicely pigmented and have a good texture. They don't last as long as I'd like but even so I like them a lot.

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer in 040 Soft Beige

Oh Rimmel you are so awesome! I've used it every day since I bought it and have nearly used up my first tube of this (I will definitely be re-purchasing.) I use it to cover the bags under my eyes and it just makes me look more human. It's more highlighting than it is covering but it's still awesome.

No 7 Essential Moisture Day Cream

Another purchase made with No 7 vouchers. My skin was going through a really dry phase but this moisturiser has really helped. It has a thick and creamy consistency. I use it in the morning and it makes my skin feel so nourished. Big like for this Day Cream.

MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Girl About Town

Oh this lipstick. I couldn't love it more if I tried. Read more about my love for it here, here and here

The Simpsons Lego Minifigures

I love The Simpsons. I love Lego. And I am a giant child so of course I had to get The Simpsons Lego. I have since added Ralph Wiggum (who is one of my favourite Simpsons' characters ever) and Krusty the Klown to my collection and I will be collecting them all. Because I'm cool that way.

Sleek Face Form Pallet in Fair

Read about my thoughts on this contouring pallet here

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Sugar Apple, Huckleberry and Almond

Sugar Apple

Huckleberry

Almond

These are my current Barry M faves. They are gorgeous! Particularly Sugar Apple. I love them.

L'Oreal Paris True Match in Vanilla Rose

This my favourite drug store foundation ever.'Nuff said.

Maybelline New York's Forever Strong Super Stay 7 Days Gel Nail Color

From left to right: Surreal, Nude Rose, Hot Salsa, Divine Wine & Extreme Blackcurrant.

The thing I find with Maybelline is that as a brand it can be very hit and miss. Now whilst these don't last the 7 days they promise, they are nice. They're not my favourite nail polishes but the formula is good, the colours are nice (particularly Surreal and Nude Rose) and they do last a good few days before chipping. I like them but like I said not my favourite.

Maybelline New York's Baby Lips in Cherry Me and Pink Punch

As lip balms go these are ok. Not great, not terrible. Cherry Me was a Wish a couple of weeks ago (read about it here) and I really wasn't impressed with the pigmentation. Having said that they are both moisturising and smell nice.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in 360 As You Want Victoria

This is a beautiful, glossy pink lipstick, it's so pretty. I love it.

So that was what I was spending my hard earned pennies on last month. I've actually mentioned a lot of these on here before so I hope you guys don't feel like I'm saying the same thing over and over and beating you around the head with the same products.

Anyway I will be back tomorrow with my July Favourites where some of these will be making a special guest appearance, apologies in advance. Until then check out my twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest or let me know your thoughts by commenting below. If you do comment I always reply so do check back. Happy Sunday!

Friday I'm in Love #8

Friday I'm in Love #8

Read post
Well Hello There! I can't even tell you how happy I am to see you Friday, where have you been all week? Well now that I have got that moment of madness out of the way how are you all? Hope everyone's had a fabulous week! I've been super busy this week - saw Guardians of the Galaxy and loved it! - and I am so ready for some R&R this weekend. So ready. But before I get down to the business of the world's longest lie in I thought I would share my loves for the week. You ready? Let's do this thing.

The Real Techniques Base Shadow and Deluxe Crease Brushes from the Starter Set

(The Base Shadow Brush - I could not get a decent picture of this brush for neither Love nor Money)

(The Deluxe Crease Brush - insert heart eyed emoji)

Some of you will know that I have been going through something of a Real Techniques obsession of late. The Starter Set is the most recent addition to my growing collection and I have to say I really like them. I have been using the Base Shadow Brush and the Deluxe Crease Brush everyday for the past week and they are so good. They are so soft and fluffy, the Deluxe Crease Brush in particular feels like I'm applying my eye shadow with a cloud. Now I am no stranger to a smokey eye but these brushes make it so easy. Obsessed.

Benefits They're Real Push-Up Liner

I reviewed this quite frankly awesome eyeliner on Monday (read it here) so I won't go into too much detail. I love it. It's long lasting, super easy to apply and in my opinion worth every penny of the eye watering prize tag.

So that brings me to my SOTW and I have a few so... brace yourselves (bit creepy, sorry!)

I Don't Know Why I Love You by House of Love

It would have been so, so much fun to come of age in the the early 90's. The music was awesome. This song is the most 90's thing to ever... 90's. I didn't really know how to finish that sentence.  I heard it in The To Do List - which is an awesome and incredibly underrated film - and I was immediately hooked. I heard it and then scoured the internet trying to find out what it was. I really love moody 90's music and this definitely fits the bill.

Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paloma Faith

Oh Paloma... I wouldn't really describe myself as a fan of Paloma's but every now and then she brings out a song and I realise that actually I kind of worship her. Girl can sing. This is my current Paloma obsession. I've said it before and I'll say it again I'm a hopeless romantic (read about it here, here and here) and hopeless romantics, like myself, love nothing more than unrequited or doomed love and this song just smacks of it. I'm also obsessed with the music video, Paloma (yeah we're on a first name basis) looks stunning - I love the 40's vintage fashion. Beautiful. It's a gorgeous, gorgeous song.

Speaking of gorgeous songs another favourite of mine is Gun Shot by Lykke Li

Oh this song. This song gives me all the feels. All of them. I love Lykke Li, her songs are so... scandinavian. Which makes sense given that Lykke Li is Swedish. They're quite dark and moody but they are amazing. This is currently my favourite of hers but I also love No One Ever Loved and Possibility. I love her.

So those were my loves this week. What did you think? Agree? Disagree? I only just realised they were both eye products. Duh. Anyway let me know by comment below or on twitter using the hashtags #FridayIminLove or #FIIL. Also I've talked quite a bit about music this week. So if you want to share your music faves use the hashtag #LolaRocks. If you do comment I do always reply so do check back.

Sorry it's so late tonight. We've had some lightning round these parts and it's knackered up my wifi. Still better late than never. I will (hopefully) be getting some posts up over the weekend, my July Favourites and a Pay Day Haul post from a little spending spree I had last weekend. But if you can't wait till then check me out on twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest for your daily fix of Lolarocknroses.

2 Stars... #9

2 Stars... #9
Wednesday, 6 August 2014
Read post
It's Wednesday and you know what that means, it's 2 Stars & A Wish day! Let's do this!

My First Star this week goes to Eyeko's Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Navy

This weekend saw me getting a bit adventurous with my make up (and spending way too much money in the process :S) Enter Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Navy. I've actually had this a while but never had the courage to try it out. Colourful eyeliner reminds me of my misspent youth when I used to rock eyeliner in every colour of the rainbow (I know! I can't even use the 90's as an excuse because it was the 00's) But on Saturday I was feeling particularly bold and summery and thought the time was ripe to test out this bad boy.

Despite my original misgivings I was so impressed! It was super wearable, which I wasn't expecting, and made my eyes really pop. It went on really smoothly, the colour was so nice and it stayed in place all day. I loved it.

My Second Star this week goes to Ciate Nail Polish in the shade Hoopla.

I love everything about this nail polish, especially the name. It's a really pretty baby pink, with a hint of coral that stops it being overly girly. The formula's good, not the best, but it's okay. It needs three coats to be opaque and it only lasts a couple of days but the colour more than makes up for it.

So in a shocking turn of events I don't have a wish this week. Now I know this seems like a bit of a cop out but I've had a really good week this week make up wise. But hopefully I will have some for next week.

What did you think of my stars? Have you tried them? Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know on twitter, using the hashtag #2StarsandaWish or comment below. If you do comment I do always reply so do check back. Anyway that's it from me today but I'll be back on Friday with Friday I'm in Love #8. Enjoy the rest of your week and I'll see you then. Until Friday you can check me out on social media: twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram & pinterest

Review of Benefit's They're Real Push-Up Liner

Review of Benefit's They're Real Push-Up Liner
Monday, 4 August 2014
Read post
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. I was so not ready to go back to work today. The adult life is not for me... That sounded weird. Why does the word adult make everything sound a bit creepy and X-Rated?  Anyway I was feeling particularly spendy this weekend and I just had to get Benefit's They're Real Push-Up Liner. The Gods of Shopping had spoken, I had no choice in the matter.

Much like Benefit's They're Real Mascara the They're Real Push-Up Liner seems to be a marmite product. There are those who love it and those who hate it with no middle ground. Not surprisingly, being a fan of the mascara, I loved the eyeliner.

It has a silicon tip that hugs the lash line - hence the description 'lashhugging liner pen' - and is super easy to use. It does take some getting used to, distributing the product evenly is the tricky part, but once you're used to it is so easy. The formula is amazing, once it's on IT'S ON that bad boy ain't going no where. Now I'm not too bad when it comes to eyeliner, it has taken years of practice but I can rock a cat eye flick without too much trouble. Even so using this eyeliner made it so easy, it was the easiest catflick I have ever done. You just stamp the tip at the corners of the eye and glide it across the lid. Done. It's so simple.

Have you tried Benefit's They're Real Push-Up liner yet? What did you think? Love it? Hate it? I want to know. Let me know by commenting below or on twitter. If you do comment I do reply so check back.  Anyway I'll be back on Wednesday with 2 Stars & A Wish #9, where I have a sneaking suspicion this will be making a guest appearance. Until then check out my twitter, facebook, Bloglovin, instagram & pinterest for your daily dose of Lolarocknroses.

Friday I'm in Love #7

Friday I'm in Love #7
Friday, 1 August 2014
Read post
Just a quick one tonight I'm afraid  because I'm actually off out in a little while - I know, I know I have friends and plans on a Friday night! Who knew?! :) - I'm just popping out for a couple of drinks with some friends I haven't seen in a while. We always have such a laugh when we're together, so I'm really excited. But before I get my glad rags on there is the rather important matter of Friday I'm in Love #7. It's gonna be short and sweet though as I'm in a rush and am the least organised person ever so it didn't occur to me to plan ahead this week. So please bear that in mind :)

I only have the one love this week and that is the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in the shade 360 As You Want Victoria

It's moisturising, long lasting and the colour is an absolutely gorgeous blue toned fuchsia pink, which is not dissimilar to MAC's Girl About Town (which is something of a favourite of mine), except it's glossy. This lipstick has been on my wishlist for some time now and I saw it in Sainsburys last week on special offer and snapped it up before you could say 'Lauren you don't need another lipstick!' I love it.

My SOTW this week is Robbers by The 1975.

I didn't know it was actually possible for a person to be in love with a song! But it is, alas, I think I have finally found the one and it is this gorgeous, beautiful, moody and wistful song. I love how music moves people and resonates with people even if they're not sure why at the time. This song is the reason I love music so much.  This song does that. It is stunning. I have listened to it on repeat for the past week and I actually think it's perfect. It is so beautiful.

Sorry for the short post tonight but I've got to get a wiggle on to get out. I will (hopefully) be getting some posts up over the weekend but if not I will be back on Monday.

Until then let me know what you thought using the hashtags #FridayIminLove or #FIIL and check out my twitter, facebook, BlogLovin, instagram and pinterest

Have a fantastic weekend!
