In the last couple of weeks I've tried out some really fab new make up and I've had quite the job trying to limit my Stars to just the 2 but somehow I've (almost) managed it.

This week I'm gonna do something a little different and start with my wish first as it informs one of my stars. 

My Wish goes to Liplift Peel by Être Belle

I got this in a subscription box last month and was genuinely quite excited about it. With winter coming, bringing with it chapped and dry lips, I thought this would be ideal in helping to keep my lips smooth and nourished during the winter months. The Liplift Peel promises to replenish and define the lips by gently exfoliating and removing dead skin for 'perfectly soft lips' sounds good right? Wrong! It absolutely wrecked my lips. It completely dried them out and left me with a very attractive (and crusty!) rash across my top lip. I couldn't wear lipstick for 4 days! It was horrendous. I can honestly say I have never seen my lips in a worse state. Now I don't know if I'm allergic to something in it or if my lips are particularly sensitive but I would definitely not recommend it. So not impressed. But this brings me to my first star.

My First Star this week is actually a tie and it goes to Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner and Blistex Intensive Moisturiser.

Because the Liplift Peel utterly destroyed my lips I've been using the Blistex Daily Lip Conditioner and Intensive Moisturiser to return my lips to their (less crusty) natural state and they've been amazing. I've been using the Intensive Mosituriser as a base, letting it sink in before slicking on a layer of the Daily Lip Conditioner to seal in all that nourishing, moisturising goodness and the combination of the two has been a total life saver. My lips are almost completely back to normal and it's all thanks to these two.

 I came across this a couple of weeks ago in an Essie Button video and it was love at first sight - the nail enamel, not Estée...although I do love her - and I had to get my hands on it. The colour is a ridiculously pretty pinky-purple that is both gorgeous and super wearable. It's also really versatile, it's light enough to be worn in the summer but warm enough that it can be rocked in the winter months too. I've never tried a Revlon nail polish before, the main reason being I really don't need any more nail polishes, but I was so impressed. The formula is kind of amazing, it acts as a base coat as well as a regular polish and gives a really nice gel finish plus it lasts ages. The longevity is amazing, I've had it on my nails for nearly a week now and whilst there's some minor chipping it's nothing too major. I am in love with it and you'd better believe more will be making there merry way into my now frankly ridiculous collection.

Happy Wednesday! I have had a hell of a week so I hope everyone's week is going better than mine. After over 2 weeks of the most painful and irritating dry cough, this morning I finally dragged myself to the GP where I was told that I have Acute Laryngitis and have been told that I have to rest my voice for a couple of days. Which for a chatterbox such as myself is a tall order anyway BUT my day job is basically 8 hours of me talking to people so it's not been easy to say the least.  But I am ready to put all that aside for a moment and get started on this weeks 2 Stars & A Wish. I may not be able to talk but I can still type damnit!

AKA the best handcream to ever grace my humble hands. Now having slightly germophobic tendancies and working in the environment I work in my hands get really dry and sore if I don't constantly moisturise. I have tried a fair few handcreams in my time BUT this could be the very best. The formula is incredible. It is really thick and creamy with a lovely buttery consistency that somehow manages to be non-greasy and sinks into the skin really quickly. It also smells gorgeous, like a cross between lemon sherbet and lemon cheesecake. All that and it cost something ridiculously cheap like £1.74 at an M&S Outlet. So not only is it incredible it was a total bargain. Love it.

Last Friday, after a long day at work I decided to pop into Boots for a quick pick me up where I unexpectedly bumped into my best friend/enabler and before I knew it this little beauty and 3 other autumn-y nail polishes had found their way into my basket. Now my nail polish collection is the stuff of legend (well not really), with 200+ polishes I really don't need anymore. However nowhere in my extensive collection is there a shade quite like this. It is a beautiful smokey mauve with subtle grey and brown undertones. It is gorgeous and absolutely perfect for Autumn. Now being Barry M it obviously has the formula that Barry M is famous for, applies like a dream with some serious staying power. I can see this becoming a firm favourite. I also picked up Chilli, Chai and Coconut (Oh my God I just realised they all begin with the letter C!) so expect to see more about them up here very soon. 

This week I found myself without a Wish, despite everything else, it has been an incredibly positive week make up wise at least.

Happy Wednesday! It’s been a while since my last 2 Stars & A Wish (read it here) but after a nice little break it's ready for a comeback. So without further ado let's talk stars and wishes. 

My First Star this week goes to Garnier's Micellar Water

So recently there has been something of a buzz surrounding Micellar Cleansing Water and I knew about it in the same way I know about The Kardasians, I'm aware that they're there without knowing much about them. Unlike The Kardashians I actually wanted to learn more about Micellar Water so when I saw this monster of a bottle in Asda for the bargain price of £3.33 I snapped it up. And it is well worth the hype. It has literally cut my make up removal time in half. Waterproof mascara trembles in the face of this make up removal heavy weight. Best of all a 400ml bottle has up to 200 uses. It's awesome. 

 The Body Shop Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow & Body Mist

I've had this for a long time and I used to use it religiously but for the last year it's been in the back of my dressing table until I came across it last week. I bought this because I'm not the best sleeper, I don't turn off and it can take me hours to drift off but this really helps. Containing jujube date extract, camomile and traces of lavender this sleep spray smells lovely and is so soothing. It just eases me into sleep. I. Love. It.

We won’t talk about the colour because as you can see it’s lovely. It’s the prettiest spring green that makes me happy just by being near it. So why is it a wish then? Because the formula is honestly the worst nail varnish formula I have ever come across! It is watery, needing 4 or even 5 coats to be opaque and goes on streaky. Without a top coat it lasts only hours before chipping. It's so disappointing. As a brand I find Bourjois to be quite hit and miss, (hits include Rouge Edition Velvet, Healthy Mix Serum & Cream Blush) this is definitely a miss.

It's Wednesday and you know what that means, it's 2 Stars & A Wish day! Let's do this! 

               

My First Star this week goes to Eyeko's Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Navy 

This weekend saw me getting a bit adventurous with my make up (and spending way too much money in the process :S) Enter Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Navy. I've actually had this a while but never had the courage to try it out. Colourful eyeliner reminds me of my misspent youth when I used to rock eyeliner in every colour of the rainbow (I know! I can't even use the 90's as an excuse because it was the 00's) But on Saturday I was feeling particularly bold and summery and thought the time was ripe to test out this bad boy. 

Despite my original misgivings I was so impressed! It was super wearable, which I wasn't expecting, and made my eyes really pop. It went on really smoothly, the colour was so nice and it stayed in place all day. I loved it.

My Second Star this week goes to Ciate Nail Polish in the shade Hoopla. 

I love everything about this nail polish, especially the name. It's a really pretty baby pink, with a hint of coral that stops it being overly girly. The formula's good, not the best, but it's okay. It needs three coats to be opaque and it only lasts a couple of days but the colour more than makes up for it.

So in a shocking turn of events I don't have a wish this week. Now I know this seems like a bit of a cop out but I've had a really good week this week make up wise. But hopefully I will have some for next week.

I hope everyone's having a good week! Today has been an odd sort of day for me. Have you ever had one of those days where the world speeds up around you but it feels like you're wading through treacle? That's the day I've had today. I woke up 10 minutes late and it just went downhill from there. I ended up having a freezing cold shower before slamming the door shut on my finger and missing the bus. The week is really dragging but in the words of the great Jon Bon Jovi 'OOOOH WE'RE HALFWAY THERE!' There being the weekend! (Sorry! Regular readers will already know I'm super lame. Newbies: Welcome to Lolarocknroses, I'm superlame! You have been warned!) 

My first star this week goes to Barry M's Gelly Hi Shine in Almond. 

The (beauty) world loves, adores and worships the ground this polish walks upon and for good reason. A beautiful greige - I have been waiting forever to use that word!- it's really neutral and understated but also really pretty. Being Barry M it has the gorgeous, thick and creamy but totally manageable, easy to work formula we've all come to know and love. It goes on lovely and smooth and only needs two coats to be opaque (although I like to use three just to make sure.) I'm not really a huge fan of neutral shades, don't get me wrong I like them but I do love my brights and like my nails to pop. Having said that I can see this one becoming a firm favourite. I've heard, on good authority, that Almond is a dupe for Portchester Square by Nails Inc. Portchester Square being one of the few Nails Inc polishes I haven't tried I don't know if that's true BUT having seen some swatches online I can see that the colours are incredibly similar with the price being the only real difference, it doesn't get much better than that!

My Second Star this week goes to Percy & Reed's Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish 

Now when it comes to haircare I am fiercely loyal to the brands I love. I tend to stick to what I know purely because I know them and I know what they do. I know what works for my hair and because my hair is so incredibly difficult it doesn't really leave much room for any experimentation. But every now and then an adventurous streak comes over me -it happens every couple of months or so when I suddenly think it would be a really good idea to do a JLaw and get a pixie cut. Which, realistically, I would never, ever do! I could not pull it off - Anyway every now and then I will occasionally shake up my haircare routine a little bit. I picked this up during a moment of hair madness ages ago, and have had it so long now that I can't even remember where, when or how I got it. But none of that matters because I'm using it now and I love it. I've been using it everyday in an attempt to tame my hair and calm  the frizz. My hair can't cope in this heat and goes full on crazy in the humidity.  It is not a good look! Since using the Finishing Polish there has been a slight but definitely noticeable difference in my hair. It's less frizzy and easier to manage. The product is really lightweight with a smooth, creamy consistency that doesn't leave the hair looking greasy or crispy. It also somehow manages to hold it's own against my wild curls and I love it for that. 

My Wish this week goes to MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer in Funk 

I bought this a million years ago and promptly forgot all about it until I rediscovered it lurking (sounds so sinister) at the back of my dressing table earlier this week. MUA is a high street brand that I like quite a lot, the make up is really good quality for the ridiculously low price you pay, although it can be a little bit hit and miss. This was definitely a miss. Now because I only paid £3.00 for this I was obviously not expecting perfection BUT I was expecting/hoping for a better formula. The formula is the main problem because I love everything else about this product. It is a really gorgeous blue-toned fuschia pink, the colour pay off is fantastic and it has a doe foot applicator so it's ridiculously easy to apply. Even the packaging is quite nice and suggests that it cost more than it actually did. However, the important bit, the formula really, really lets it down. Being a liquid lipstick with a matte finish some dryness is kind of expected, particularly when the product is this cheap. However the formula for the Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer is so drying that it actually irritated my lips to the point where they started to peel, which didn't hurt but was so gross and gave me the puckered pout of an old lady.  It also doesn’t last very long and needed to be reapplied a lot. By lunchtime it was really starting to get on my nerves and I wanted to take it off but, ironically, it was really difficult to remove and took me ages to get it off my lips. All in all I'm really not disappointed. It was so close to being amazing but the formula falls short.

I'm back and ready to hit the ground running on my return from my break that wasn't really a break (read bout it here and here). It's Wednesday and that can only mean that 2 Stars & A Wish is making it's long-awaited return (just kidding!) to it's tiny corner of the internet. So without further ado let's get started.

My First Star this week goes to the Real Techniques Buffing Brush.

This brush is something of a cult favourite among beauty bloggers and for good reason. So when I got paid a couple of weeks back, I immediately found myself clicking over to Amazon and ordering The Core Collection Kit, containing a concealer brush, a pointed foundation brush, the buffing brush and a contour brush, and whilst I have thoroughly enjoyed using them the buffing brush is my absolute favourite. It's... amazing. I've been using it every morning to apply my foundation and I love it. It picks up the perfect amount of product and blends it into the skin so easily. It makes foundation application effortless, leaving a faultless base and it does all this whilst still managing to be ridiculously soft. I love it. I have since added the Real Techniques Blush and Setting brushes to my collection and have my beady eye on the Stippling brush, the Starter Kit and the Travelling Essentials Kit. What can I say? I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship. 

My Second Star this week goes to MAC Amplified Creme Lipstick in Girl About Town 

This is the most beautiful lipstick to ever exist in the world ever. A bold statement I know but just look at it! Gorgeous! I got this about two weeks ago when me and my bestie went to London for the day (read about it here). After hours of deliberation, in which I'm pretty sure I swatched the entire MAC counter onto the back of my hand, I settled on Girl About Town in the Amplified Creme finish. As you can see it is the most stunning blue toned fuschia. Not only is the colour beautiful but the formula is really creamy, moisturising and long lasting. Although it did need to be reapplied after eating and drinking, but being that the now iconic packaging is as stunning as the lipstick itself this is hardly a hardship. Buying this lipstick has only added fuel to the fire that is my MAC obsession and I WILL be buying more as soon as pay day rolls around. I am in love with it. 

My Wish this week goes to Collection's Super Size Fat Lash Mascara. 

I was really struggling to think of this week's wish, almost to the point where I was thinking sod it! I'll just have 3 Stars (it's been an incredibly positive couple of weeks make up wise) BUT then I came across this whilst I was rummaging through my dressing table in search of a wish... that sounded way more magical then it was. Don't get me wrong it was pretty magical (I do love sorting through my make up collection) but not like Disney magical. Anyway this mascara was a free gift with a Collection Smokey Eye Pallet (which I love) I bought around Christmastime last year. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to mascaras. I like mascaras to lift and separate the lashes whilst curling, lengthening and volumising, which I don't think is too much to ask from a mascara. Whilst this one promises, and I quote, "Super Sized Fat Lashes" it just doesn't deliver. The formula is really watery and takes a good 3 or 4 coats to build up even a mediocre layer of coverage. The brush is a medium bristle brush which leaves the lashes looking really clumpy. All in all this mascara is just a bit meh and is usually only reached for on days when I'm in a manic rush to get to the bus stop and it's the closest thing to hand. It's just a bit pants.

It's Wednesday and that can only mean one thing, well two things: Firstly we are now more than halfway through the working week,  meaning we only have 2 more days to go until the weekend! Yay! Secondly, and more importantly, it's time for 2 Stars & A Wish! So let's stop dillydallying and get this party started! (Sorry, super lame) 

My First Star this week goes to Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Huckleberry. 

When it comes to high street nail polish Barry M is the undisputed King. He just is. Now personally when it comes to nails I'm usually not a great fan of pastels, preferring my nail colours to come from the louder and prouder end of the spectrum. Having said that when Barry M's new summer collection dropped I could not wait to get my hands on them and they were almost exclusively pastels. I grabbed this, and 2 others - it was 3for2, in a mad dash through Superdrug on Friday morning and I absolutely love it. It's a really lovely pale mint green/blue (depending on the light) which is so summery and pretty. Usually with colours this pale a white base coat is an annoying requirement. But because Barry M's formula, particularly the Gelly formula, is so kick ass it doesn't need it. It does however require one extra coat for opacity. Other than that it's amazing.

Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing 2in1 Make-Up Remover 

I've been testing out a lot of cleansers of late and I bought this after a very favourable recommendation from my step-sister. Now being a sensitive skinned, blackhead prone (gross!) lass I'm a bit wary when it comes to oil based cleansers. I'm also allergic to oil based paint so that's a worry as well. As a general rule I try to steer clear of oil based products because I don't know how my skin will react. However the conversation with my equally sensitive skinned step-sister, who absolutely raved about this product, convinced me and I thought I'd give it a whirl. I've been using it for the past 5 days and it. is. awesome. It removes my make up so quickly and effectively that my skin care routine is no longer the ball ache it once was. As it's oil based it removes all traces of eyeliner and mascara, even waterproof, so easily and it's not at all sting-y on the eyes which is nice. It's really good. I don't love it as much as the Nivea Daily Essentials 2in1 Cleanser & Toner (read about it here and here) which I think is more soothing on the skin but I still like it. 

My Wish this week goes to Maybelline's Babylips in Cherry Me 

I've been umming and ahhing about what could be this week's wish as I have had a really positive week make up wise, (life wise not so much.) And then I remembered this.  I had a bit of a shopping spree last weekend because it was payday and I was naughty -haul post to follow-. Anyway I was in Tesco with my step-sister,  who is just as bad as I am! And somehow, quite mysteriously, we wound up in the make up aisle, where they had Babylips for 2 for £5. Now I'd never tried Babylips before but had heard some generally good things so I thought why not? And that is how Cherry Me and Pink Punch found their way into my basket, alongside Maybelline's Forever Strong Super Stay 7 Days Gel Nail Colour in Surreal (which I loved! As you can see I've clearly forgiven Maybelline for their shoddy excuse for a foundation, read about it here.) Babylips were marketed as super pigmented, lipbalm lipstick hybrids. Whilst Cherry Me is a deep red lip balm that smells gorgeous (like cherry drops!), is very moisturising and has very cute packaging the pigmentation leaves much to be desired. In a word it's crap. I'll carry on using it as a lipbalm but as a lipstick it's a bit meh. Very disappointing. It took ages to get this kind of colour pay off for the swatch... and it's not even that great a swatch! Having said that I had absolutely no qualms with the Pink Punch, which smells like peaches (yummy), is a really nice shade of baby pink and is so pigmented, leaving the lips looking glossy and nourished.

You will have noticed that today is in fact Thursday (I’m very good at stating the obvious!) and 2 Stars & A Wish is usually posted on a Wednesday (again, my obvious stating is excellent) Last night I went to my sister’s to get my roots touched up (they were in dire need) and by the time she was finished I was more than ready for bed. But here it is as promised… just a day behind schedule.

My First Star this week is jointly awarded to Lisle Street by Nails Inc & Nail Jewellery in Justice Walk by Nails Inc.

I am a huge fan of Nails Inc. Of my 188 strong nail polish collection, at least 40 of them are Nails Inc. These two have been loitering at the back of my collection, unused and unnoticed, and probably would have remained that way if I hadn't had a super girly night with my friends last Saturday. We decided that it was of the utmost importance for us to paint our nails. And to do that we needed to enlist the help of my vast nail polish collection. After we had marveled - seriously it is quite something to behold-  we got stuck in. Being completely spoilt for choice I made the girls pick for me and these were the colours they chose. 

Nails Inc in Lisle Street is a really, really pretty coral colour. Whilst I’m not a pastels kinda girl I do love a good coral polish and this one is gorgeous. I can’t believe I’ve had it for over a year and I’ve never used it before. Bad Lauren. I feel like I need to explain myself, I don’t just mindlessly buy nail polish I never use. Actually that’s a lie I totally do. But in my defence every couple of months or so Nails Inc has a Lucky Dip Sale which is 7 randomly selected polishes for £20, offering a saving of over £50. It’s a total bargain so obviously I’ve done it a few times. In fact I’m pretty sure it’s how I accrued my sizable collection of Nails Inc Polishes. The only problem is I don’t get to choose and if the colours don’t jump out at me straight away then they tend to get forgotten about. The upside to this is that my nail polish collection is full of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered (downside I’m a crazy nail varnish hoarder.)

Like I said the colour is a really beautiful coral, that manages to make even my ghostly hands look tanned. It also lasts a really long time without chipping. I’m so glad they picked this one out for me otherwise it would have remained forgotten and forlorn at the back of my stash. The only teeny tiny niggle I have with Lisle Street is the slightly watery formula. Usually I have absolutely no qualms with the formula of Nails Inc polishes. Having said that it’s really not a deal breaker it just needs an extra coat to be opaque. Overall I’m really happy with it and I absolutely love it. 

Nails Inc Nail Jewellery in Justice Walk is an Amber coloured glitter. I'm normally not a huge glitter fan (because it is so goshdarn difficult to remove), which is probably why its been overlooked for so long. But the minute I put it on I fell completely in love with it. The colour is so pretty and the formula is amazing. It's thick enough that it only takes a few coats to be opaque but also thin enough that one layer can act as a sparkly top coat. I'm so happy about ths

My Second Star this week goes to Nivea Daily Essentials Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover 

I bought this because I'd never tried a dual action eye make up remover before and I was curious to see what it was like. I've been using it every night before I go to bed for the past two weeks and I have to say it has really impressed me (you can see in the picture how much I've been using it.) The oil based layer is specially formulated to be tough on make up but gentle on the skin and to remove even the most stubborn of waterproof mascaras. It took on Benefits They're Real mascara, a mascara notorious for it's hard to remove formula, and won. The water based layer soothes and protects the delicate under eye skin and conditions the eyelashes (which has actually made a noticeable difference. Who'd have thunk it?) Despite being partly oil based it doesn't have a greasy texture and doesn't sting the eyes. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned my love for No 7's Beautiful Skin Eye Make Up Remover (read it here) but this one literally blows it out of the water (sorry No7 I still love you). It's amazing. 

My Wish this week goes to Pantene Pro-V Split End Serum for Normal/Thick Hair

Some of you will know my hair is a source of both intense love and intense hate in my life. My mission is to grow my hair to my waist, in the hope that the added length will weigh down my hair causing my curls to go from completely insane to only moderately so. 3 years ago my hair, after years of bleach and straightening abuse, had to be cut to my collar bone. I was absolutely devastated, when straightened my hair was barely medium length. When curly it was a chin length bob at best. I absolutely hated it that length. Short hair, of any kind, does not even remotely suit me. Anyway 3 years later and my hair is oh so slowly inching its way down my back towards my waist, another 2 years and it will (hopefully) reach its target. So where does Pantene Pro V Split End serum come into all this? Well split ends are my mortal enemy. They are the Voldemort to my Harry Potter. If Harry Potter was a gobby red head (Ron Weasley anyone?). I loathe split ends, so I bought this as a preventative measure to see if it would make any difference. Sadly it doesn’t work. I applied the serum to the ends of my hair literally every time I washed my hair for months and it made little to no difference to the state of my split ends. The formula is really thick and weighs down the ends of my hair and made them look greasy which I hate. It does smell really nice but that doesn’t do much good when it doesn’t do what it says it will. Overall I was really disappointed with this. Big thumbs down.

There won't be a Friday I'm in Love this week instead my June Favourites will be taking it's place. I have never done a Favourites post before so I am super excited about it. Friday I'm in Love will be back as normal from next week.

Happy Wednesday lovely people! I hope everyone's having a fabulous week so far. I have now been what could be described as a functioning adult with a functioning job for the past three days. I can't say I'm loving it but I've definitely had worse jobs. I quite literally made a tit of myself on Monday when I wore a sheer, see-through top with a (rather ill fitting) black vest top underneath. Halfway through the day I looked down to find that my vest top had slipped down, showcasing my boobs encased in their bright pink leopard print bra to everyone in the office. Mega awkward. But enough about that let's talk about my 2 Stars & A Wish for the week.

My first Star this week goes to Modern Muse by Estée Lauder

This was a welcome home present from my Mumma and it is absolutely beautiful. It smells lovely without being over powering. According to the Estée Lauder website Modern Muse combines woody and floral scents creating a fragrance as 'complex and fascinating as the women who inspire it'. I love that idea. I also love the fact that it smells absolutely bloody gorgeous! And it lasts a really long time. Not only that but the packaging is beautiful too. I think every woman should have a signature scent, my mum's is Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier, and I think this is a serious contender to becoming mine. I love it. 

My Second Star this week goes to Optrek Soothing Eye Drops - For Itchy Eyes.

   

I know this isn't exactly a beauty product but it's been so good that I thought it was definitely worthy of a mention. This summer I've had the worst hayfever ever! Previously hayfever used to be a mild annoyance which gave me a stuffed up nose and watery eyes for like a week at the beginning of every summer before magically disappearing. This year, sadly, that has not been the case. Since the start of the warmer weather my eyes have been watering constantly. Now you wouldn't think this would be anything other than a slight inconvenience, I know I didn't, but honestly it is awful.  My eyes have been swollen and bright red for weeks! The skin beneath has become dry and puffy and so sore from the constant watering  that it hurts to blink. I tried taking anti-histamines but they didn't work. Nothing worked. Until I found this, used in combination with some own brand hayfever tablets from Boots, my hayfever and the constantly watering eyes have stopped. My eyes are looking, and feeling, so much better. It's a life saver. 

My Wish this week is No 7's Extreme Length Extend Mascara. 

I got this as part of a free gift around Christmastime last year and have only used it a couple of times since. The formula is really thin and watery and because of this it takes a good 3 or 4 coats to build up a decent layer of lash coverage. The brush is plastic and not very flexible. Overall it left my lashes looking a bit meh. as mascaras go this one is totally unremarkable. I was so disappointed but can't really complain because it was a free gift.
