Cushion products, particularly foundations, are having a bit of a moment in the beauty world. It started with Lancôme's Miracle Cushion, and it seems that, once again, L'Oréal was the first on the high street to throw their hat into the ring.

The whole idea of cushion products is that it is a sponge saturated in the product. This sponge is housed in a light pink compact with a contrasting metallic lid, the compact also plays host to a (fairly useless) application sponge and a decent sized mirror. I really like the packaging, I think it's really cute and so handy for popping in your bag, as the top layer acts as a seal to the sponge to prevent leaks and to stop it from drying out.

The foundation itself is amazing, I've been using it for the past couple of weeks and I really, really like it. I've found that the best way to apply it is with a damp beauty blender, because it applies so quickly, and absolutely beautifully. It also feels really soft and light against the skin. It has decent coverage, t's more medium but can be built up for something more full, and easily covers redness and minor blemishes. It also has a lovely finish, glowy, but in a lit from within kind of way and lasts reasonably well on the skin.

I only have three teeny tiny niggles about this foundation, these are:

1. The shade colour/number is not on the packaging, so things can and will get a little confusing.
2. Mine has already started to dry out
3. The foundation claims to hold 30 ml, roughly the size of an average bottle,  but I  don't think this would last as long as regular bottle of foundation.

I would also say that this is not the best for oily skinned lads and lasses, due to it's finish. However these are only minor concerns. Overall the foundation performs really well, it is an excellent colour match for me, I have the shade 03. Also due to the way it's dispensed you do tend to waste less product, so I do think it does balance out. I really like it a lot.

Nearly a year after finishing my Masters Degree in English Literature I'm finally, FINALLY, getting back into reading. So when Kristina got in touch and asked me to review her new book, What Happens in New York, I was eager to get stuck in.

What Happens in New York is about best friends Hollie and Fayth. Hollie, an aspiring designer, is stuck in a dead end job she hates and Fayth, working behind the bar at her family pub, is struggling to cope with the loss of her mum and sister and her estranged cheating husband. Fed up with their current situations they decide to go to New York for a couple of days. On their first night in New York the girls meet Astin Mack, a former model turned stuntman and Liam York, a floppy-haired movie star. It's your typical, lighthearted, girls go to New York, find love and friendship kinda story, very Sex and the City-esque, but it does touch on more important issues like loss and anxiety.

The book gets off to a shaky start, I had to read quite a few chapters to get into it, and there are a few technical writing choices that I'm not keen on, I blame my MA! I analyse everything like I'm writing an essay on it, but overall it's easy to read and a nice story. It's a good holiday read, that will make you want to jump on the next plane to New York. If you're a fan of Lindsey Kelk's I Heart series then chances are you'll like What Happens in New York

What Happens in New York  is available on Amazon

Thunderstorm by The Library of Fragrance Review #spon

Hi Guys! This post comes to you from my brand new laptop. I finally have my very own macbook and honestly I'm a little bit in love with it, I don't quite know how to use it yet, but I'm in love with it. Anyway... today I thought I'd talk to you guys about the scent Thunderstorm by The Library of Fragrance. I was actually sent a sample of this to test out a while back and ever since I've been collecting my thoughts and trying to find a more eloquent way of describing the scent, other than "it's nice!" although it is nice. Seriously though guys there are few things I hate more than trying to describe smell, it's IMPOSSIBLE!, but hey ho I'll have a whack at it, just for you lovely people.

The Library of Fragrance, Demeter in the US, is a brand that specialises in unique, almost novelty scents -they have a pizza scent which sounds awesome! - The Library of Fragrance/Demeter's aim is to highlight the beauty of the scents that surround us in our everyday lives, which I actually think is a really lovely idea... I mean I'm not sure how they're going to achieve that with the scent Funeral Home(?!) but who doesn't appreciate the smell of freshly baked cookies? Or pizza? Exactly!

So let's ask the obvious question: does it actually smell like a thunderstorm? You know that amazing smell before the heavens open and it chucks it down. Petrichor is it's actual name. Anyway the answer is yes. Yes it does. I wasn't actually expecting it to smell so much like an actual thunderstorm but it does. It really does! How they've managed to bottle that scent I will never know! When you first spritz it on it smells really earthy which immediately makes me think of sheets of rain, jumping in puddles and heavy, grey clouds, but it also smells really fresh and quite grassy. After a couple of hours that initial grassiness wears off and it leaves behind a really nice, masculine fragrance which I like a lot. It lasts really well too, normally my skin likes to eat perfume for breakfast, lunch and dinner but this has some serious lasting power. I also like to use it as a room spray for this reason, this stuff sticks around. I like it.

One of the best things about Thunderstorm, I think, is that you can layer it! This is what separates The Library of Fragrance from other brands (that and the pizza fragrance... I'll stop mentioning it now I swear!), the individual scents are designed to compliment and contrast against each other so that you can create a bespoke scent that is entirely your own, and that is so cool. I haven't actually tried layering Thunderstorm with any of the other scents yet but I definitely have my eye on Fresh Laundry, Orange Blossom and Moonbeam, so I'll keep you posted.

If you're interested in picking up Thunderstorm or any of the other fragrances, The Library of Fragrance retails at £15 and is stocked in Boots in the UK or you can pick them up online here or you can get Thunderstorm here

Have you tried Thunderstorm? Or any of the other scents from The Library of Fragrance? What did you think?
